Dr. Paolo Paron

Personal Experience

r. Paolo Paron, has almost 25 years of experience in land and water resource exploration and management, geospatial data analysis and project management. A former Senior Lecturer, now Affiliated Researcher, at IHE Delft, Institute of Water Education in the Netherlands, Paolo has worked and lived in Eastern and Southern Africa for 20+ years, practicing extensive field and analytical work on water systems in Somalia and the Horn of Africa. He combines hydro-geomorphological expertise, geospatial analysis, and leadership of large-scale resilience programmes supporting government institutions and UN partners. In his current role as Deputy Chief Technical Advisor for the Jowhar Offstream Storage Programme (JOSP), he supports coordination across multiple UN agencies, donors and Somali government to implement integrated flood and drought resilience solutions benefiting over 1.6 million people.

His career has focused on translating hydrological research, remote sensing and geospatial analysis into operational decision-support tools for academia, private sector and humanitarian programmes.
