H
enry L. “Hank” Bart Jr. is Emeritus Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University, Emeritus Curator of Tulane’s Royal D. Suttkus Fish Collection and former Director of the Tulane University Biodiversity Research Institute (TUBRI). Bart’s research focuses on taxonomy and systematics of Old and New World freshwater fishes, especially cypriniforms. Bart has led a number of technology development projects at TUBRI, including the GEOLocate Project (software for geospatially referencing text descriptions of specimen collection locations), FishNet2 (a global network of 81 institutional fish collection databases), and HydroClim (modeled historical and future stream flow and temperature data for the U.S. and Canada). Bart publishes papers dealing with taxonomy and phylogenetic relationships of freshwater fishes and amphibians. He directed minority STEM undergraduate and graduate training programs at Tulane for 17 years and has worked to attract minorities to careers in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology his entire professional career. Master of Science in Conservation Biology from the University of Eastern Africa Baraton, and a Bachelor of Science in Conservation Biology from the same university.
