Peter Gitau-He is currently a Post-Doc researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology. His current research involves examining human–environment interactions, with a particular emphasis on understanding how Kenya’s montane forest ecosystems evolved over time and respond to natural and anthropogenic influences.
He Joined KENWEB in 2012 after graduating from The University of Nairobi, with a BSc in Environmental Conservation and Natural resource management. Through mentorship and guidance, he received a Masters scholarship through Vlir-OUS to pursue an MSc in Ecology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. Later through KENWEB collaboration and support he received a scholarship through the French government and the ART-Bourse scholarship at the IRD (French Institute for research and development) to pursue a PhD at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle – Sorbonne Université in Paris, with the research focused on the Environmental Dynamics of the Tana River Delta (Kenya) at Multiple Timescales: Evidence from Geomorphology, Mangrove Assessment, Paleoecology, and Consequences for Landscape Management. During his mentorship period he learnt and developed research skills and methods in wetland ecology and paleoecological research. He currently continues to collaborate as a KENWEB associate researcher.
